A Private Retreat
Above The Rift Valley
Water, sky, firelight, and silence — curated into a rare, off-grid escape. A handful of guests. A landscape that asks nothing of you.
Held high above a quiet valley,
open only to those who find it.
Ternan is a small, privately held compound on a ridge in western Kenya. The land falls away in every direction — patchwork fields, distant mountains, a sky that changes the colour of the rooms by the hour.
There is no lobby. There is no front desk. There is the wind through the long grass, a fire that warms the water, and a meal cooked slowly while the valley turns gold.
A house cut from the ridge.
Floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides. A natural-edge pool that folds into the horizon. Polished concrete underfoot, warm timber overhead — the architecture quietly steps aside so the valley can do the speaking.
Discover the VillaNatural Pool
A stone-lined pool set into the cliff edge — fed by spring water, finished by sky.
Private Chef
Slow cooking on open flame. Produce from the surrounding farms, brought in that morning.
Fire-Heated Tub
A wood-fired soaking tub on the deck. Lit at dusk, settled by the time you walk back from dinner.
Off-Grid
Solar power, harvested rain, full satellite signal when you want it — none when you don't.
Stargazing
No city light for forty kilometres. The Milky Way arrives most nights without warning.
The Ridge Suite.
The principal bedroom of the villa. Two glass walls, a quiet rug, a bed pointed at the horizon. Wake without an alarm.
The Cabin.
A small A-frame on stilts at the edge of the bush. For one or two who want only the trees, the wind, and a roof when it rains.
A long fire,
a longer table.
Dinner is the centre of the day. A single shared table on the open deck, a fire pit set into its length, and food cooked over flame from what the valley grew that week.
Vegetarian, pescatarian, halal — all welcomed with notice. Wine list curated from small Kenyan and South African producers.
"We arrived strangers. We left with the feeling of having found somewhere we did not know we were looking for." — Recent Guest, March 2026

Your private retreat awaits.
Two nights minimum. A quiet enquiry — a quiet reply. We will hold the dates while we speak.
